Small Business Shared Interest Group

Welcome to the IMA's Small Business shared interest group (SIG)!  We're excited to launch this new platform where we can share thoughts, ideas, and best practices for small businesses with all of you.

I've volunteered with IMA in different capacities for many years now, and I'm really looking forward to my newest role as leader of the Small Business SIG.  Over the course of my 20+ years working for a regional, mid-size CPA firm in the Philadelphia suburbs, I've helped my clients with a variety of issues, many of which are not accounting-related.  There is a common theme in that many of these issues seem to stem from one main cause - a general lack of resources.  One of the main goals of our Small Business SIG is to provide these much-needed resources to help you and your small business succeed in today's ever-changing global business environment.  As a member of this group, I look forward to being a champion for small business!

Please explore the new site and check out the Library section for our current content.  We also plan to frequently post questions here in the Discussion section to gauge your interest in topics we're considering for future library content and provide you with opportunities to share your questions, thoughts and ideas with the group.  We are looking forward to engaging you in discussions about current and relevant topics to small business!

I want to take a moment to introduce myself to the team.  My name is Jan, and I am currently serving as Moderator for the Emerging Issues group as part of the Small Business SIG.  Our goal is to identify trends and topics that are important to the global small business community.  It's a great space to not just stay current on topics, but to provide insight into what topics are anticipated to be important to our audience in the near future.

I've been volunteering with the team for a couple of years now, and I'm happy to step into the moderator role.  I have broad experience in the Accounting & Finance discipline, but more importantly currently Co-Own (along with my husband) a fast-growing small business called Al's Delicious Popcorn in Columbus, OH.  There's no better way to understand small business than to be living it every day!  If you are interested in serving on our team, please let me know.  We want to drive participation from a variety of small business segments as well as globally representative.  Come have some fun with us and know that you are doing work to drive to the success of Small Businesses across the globe.
