    Great to see the Institute of Management Accountants Non-Profit Shared Interest Group gaining momentum! I’m deeply involved with IMA’s efforts just as you are!

    I also have experience at both nonprofits at the global level and with local academic institutions—and I’m excited to contribute to this community.

    From my perspective in the non-profit sector, a few of the pressing issues we’re navigating in 2025 include:

    • Financial instability and funding uncertainty .

    • Workforce and talent retention challenges (finding and keeping qualified folks in finance and operations is a major concern). 

    • AI and technology and innovation.

    Congratulations on getting this forum underway—I look forward to being a part of the conversation and helping us all advance our missions.

    Hello.

    Thank you for the invitation to join the group. I think this is a fantastic idea for building our network and collaborating. Non-profit accounting is a niche that many in the for-profit environment do not realize is highly specialized. 

    I have been operating in the non-profit sector for 25 years. I started my accounting career in higher education, then supported Catholic schools, before working for various non-profit organizations as a Controller. I am starting my own business offering non-profit Controller services, while continuing to work full-time for a non-profit theater. 

    I look forward to meeting everyone.

    Many of us have cross sectional experience with the nonprofit sector, academia, and or volunteering for example through IMA.

    I myself have significant experience in nonprofit, but not exclusively, also investment banking, and tech.

    Its a good tight knit, but rapidly growing group.

    We are all trying to get the word out!

    @Rinku Bhattacharya is one of the leaders at the group and IMA in general.

    As for myself I reported to the CFO and General Counsel of a global nonprofit some years back — maintaining their internal investment portfolio with investment banks.

    I was also the COO of a local nonprofit affiliated with the University of South Carolina more recently.

    The board positions, yes you are correct @Drew Chancey — I hold those appointments with IMA and a local collage here by where I live.

    I am in South Carolina w my dog, my parent live in NYC, otherwise just enjoying the scenery and hiking.

    Thanks @Janna Haney for also jumping into this thread, so nice to be here w you.

    Now you tell us something cool or interesting.

    Welcome everyone.  Glad to be a part of the group.

    I am currently a fractional CFO focused primarily on nonprofit clients and serve on two nonprofit boards of directors. I also teach an intro to accounting for entrepreneurs course through partnerships with co-working spaces, venture capital groups, and other nonprofit organizations.

    Prior to going freelance, I spent 10+ years as a nonprofit CFO.  I have also served on the boards of a dozen nonprofits, including the Indianapolis IMA Chapter and Lincoln Trail Regional Council.  The nonprofit sector is literally changing the world and I am thrilled to be able to support their work.
