    You're on this journey because you want to learn more about leadership and in addition to our IMALA leadership resources to help fill this, there is a seemingly unlimited supply of good (and sometimes bad) leadership resources out there. So, let's do some sharing of our favorites!

    What leadership books, blogs, articles, or podcasts are you currently reading/listening to and why? Or what are your favorites from the past? Post and comment!

    My latest favorite leadership book is a chance encounter. IMA asked me to do a book review of Dan Pontefract's Lead Care Win: How to Become a Leader Who Matters. Sometimes that right book comes to you at the right time! The book is an easy read and includes 9 insightful yet super-practical leadership lessons that can help you become a more engaging and caring leader. As an instructor, it's been a challenge transitioning students back from a fully online experience during the height of the pandemic to an engaging in-person experience. Everyone is still a bit shell-shocked of how to connect with each other. I'm sure many of you have felt the same thing about coming back from remote work arrangements. One of the biggest lessons what being relatable and empathetic, and it helped me connect more with the class (i.e., the team I lead) and us accomplish more together.

    Probably the best leadership book I've read in my career is Larry Bossidy's and Ram Charan's Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done. Over the course of my career, I've come back to this book time and time again because it pulls together many of the things that you learn about leadership and synthesizes it into action. Leadership is complicated, and it's easy to get lost in the nuances of being a good leader and forget the purpose of leading is to achieve a goal. At the end of the day, a good leader is measured by what she accomplishes. This program provides great source material for the many facets of leadership. This book will help you pull all that together and lead effectively.

    Thanks, Lisa,  I have three suggestions to offer:

    1. I subscribe to the SmartBrief on Leadership newsletter.  I get a weekly email highlighting leadership articles across a wide range of publications.  The current issue has articles including "Don't Be Afraid to Deflate Your Own Ego as a Leader", "How Paul Simon's Musical Magic Translates to Leadership", and "Focus on Climbing Ability When Eying the Corporate Ladder".  Go to www.smartbrief.com to subscribe. There is no cost.
    2. Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Travis Bradberry and Jean Greaves. I wish I had found this book early in my career and maybe have avoided situations where I reacted emotionally or failed to read others' emotions properly.  The authors provide a self-assessment followed by tips for improving self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management.
    3. Zapp! The Lightning of EMPOWERMENT by William C. Byham, Ph.D. with Jeff Cox. This is a quick, easy read on the power of empowering employees and some dos and don'ts.  Years ago our VP of Finance gave copies to every manager in the department, and I still apply the lessons today. This was well before the era of "quiet quitting" and high turnover, but the lessons are still relevant.

    I have to admit I haven't read a book that's merely on leadership. A while ago, I have read the Art of War (Sun Tzu) and the Prince (Machiavelli). I recall certain points about success factors that are relevant for commanders and rulers. Obviously, they have to be resilient, agile and be able convince others to act. It's also interesting to note that power and authority can not alone be the answer to all types of challenges.

    Harun, it's interesting that you mentioned Art of War. I participated in a leadership program at my university several years ago and that book was on our assigned reading list. It's amazing how something written so long ago still provides valuable leadership lessons today.

    I don't often read books on leadership, so unfortunately I do not have to much to add to this conversation.  But thank you everyone for the recommendations!  I am an avid reader (normally have three books going at any given time), so I look forward to adding some of these books to my TBR (To Be Read) pile!

    In my view, a leader is ''A person who has the power of convincing people or a group of people to pursue, execute and achieve a common goal willingly''. Mastering the art of persuasion is key for aspiring leaders.

    Bob Burt's Book ''The Art of Persuasion; Wining without Intimidation'' was a revelation to me. For over 20 years, I kept asking myself why intelligent leaders/managers sometimes take poor decisions. In some cases, even the decision might seem illogical or disasters. Bob Burt provided the answer.

    The answer is in the first chapter of the book '' The Principle is universal: it holds true for me, for you, and practically everyone else on this plan, even though we are often the first ones to deny it, even while we're in the act of doing it. We human beings act out of emotion, not logic''.

    The book is around 160 pages. You can enjoy reading it on a Sunday afternoon with a cup of coffee ��.
