The Good Life in Business: A Foundation of Ethics and Standards

  • 1.  The Good Life in Business: A Foundation of Ethics and Standards

As small business owners, we often envision the "good life" as one of success, growth, and financial security. But as finance and ethics expert Clare Levison, CPA, CGMA, reminds us, achieving this vision also means understanding and adhering to the standards and laws that govern our profession.

Incorporating strong ethical principles isn't just about following rules. It's about establishing trust, fostering client loyalty, and building a solid foundation for long-term success. Levison highlights that knowing the regulations and professional standards is essential, as it enables us to navigate challenges with integrity and make decisions that truly benefit our businesses, clients, and communities.

Let's remember that a successful business isn't just measured by revenue but by the positive impact we create. By staying informed and grounded in ethical practices, we're not only securing our success but also contributing to a higher standard in our industry.

Very well said Matthew, thank you for posting these insights!  Fostering ethical behavior goes way beyond simple compliance with laws and regulations, it speaks to the overall tone at the top of an organization, which we all know is super important to prevent unethical decision making and fraudulent behavior.  Measuring success beyond the bottom line (or revenues) should be a vision shared by all!

Would anyone be willing to share some best practices and examples of practical ways their company promotes ethics, beyond just having a code of conduct in place?
