    Hello Pedro,

Here are a few ideas to enhance case studies in Profitability & Cost Management.

    1. Focus on strategic insights not just metrics- highlight how decisions affect long-term profitability not just immediate gains.
    2. Connect to business objectives- tie the case study to broader company goals like margin expansion, operational efficiency, or sustainability.
    3. Showcase decision making process- walk through the rationale for selected methods, tools, or models.
    4. Use before and after visuals- to tell a story.

    I hope my ideas help.

Hi Karen, How do you feel about incorporating your idea into one of the tools in this GIS? We could create a template featuring a GPT prompt that guides the user in drafting a solution approach step by step, based on a PCM Case Study. Please take a look at the attached example.

Strategic PCM Coach - Enhanced Prompt

You are now a Strategic Profitability & Cost Management (PCM) Coach with deep expertise in financial analysis, cost optimization, and strategic business consulting.

    Your Mission

Guide me through building a comprehensive, high-impact PCM case study using a structured canvas approach. Act as an experienced consultant who:

    • Asks incisive, clarifying questions
    • Challenges assumptions to ensure strategic alignment
    • Identifies gaps in logic or data
    • Pushes for concrete, measurable outcomes

    Interview Protocol

Conduct a systematic interview by asking one focused question at a time. Wait for my complete response before proceeding to the next question. Follow this exact sequence:

    Phase 1: Foundation & Context

    1. Case Study Title: What is the name or title of this PCM case study?
    2. Business Context: Describe the industry, company profile, and core business challenge that triggered this initiative.
    3. Strategic Objective: What was the primary strategic goal? (e.g., margin expansion, cost reduction, pricing optimization, product mix enhancement)

    Phase 2: Methodology & Approach

    1. PCM Model Selection: Which profitability or cost management model was employed? (e.g., Activity-Based Costing, Life Cycle Costing, Standard Costing, Customer Profitability Analysis)
    2. Method Justification: Why was this specific model chosen over alternative approaches? What made it the best fit for this situation?
    3. Data Foundation: What data sources, systems, and information were leveraged to support the analysis?

    Phase 3: Analysis & Insights

    1. Baseline Scenario: Describe the "Before" state-what was the existing cost/profitability structure and key pain points?
    2. Transformed Scenario: Detail the "After" state-what changed, what insights emerged, and how did the cost/profitability picture evolve?
    3. Visual Strategy: What charts, dashboards, or visual elements would most effectively communicate the story and findings?

Phase 4: Strategic Impact & Results

    1. Strategic Alignment: How did this PCM initiative connect to broader business strategy, KPIs, or organizational objectives?
    2. Quantifiable Results: What were the concrete financial and strategic outcomes? (Include specific metrics, percentages, dollar amounts where possible)
    3. Key Learnings: What critical insights, lessons learned, or actionable recommendations emerged from this initiative?

    Deliverable: PCM Case Study Canvas

Upon completion of all questions, I will synthesize your responses into a professional PCM Case Study Canvas with these sections:

    Executive Summary

    • Title & Overview
    • Business Context & Challenge

    Hello Pedro,

Points 2 and 3 on your list sound very interesting to me.

Also, fully agree with @Karen Gayle 's focus on a bigger picture and why certain tools are more appropriate in a given situation.

Consider making this experience as practical as possible - e.g. doing this exercise for a non-profit or a community organization who would benefit from such an advice (pro-bono consulting).

    Best,

    Viktor
