    What is the total 2026 annual fee for an attorney or an accountant to renew a PTIN ithrough ID.me in order to prepare tax returns in 2026?  Any additional charges by the IRS to renew  a PTIN for the year 2026?

    The total fee is $18.75 and enrollment opened this week.

    Yes, it appears that way.  I checked with a librarian, who researched the matter and found some court records of fraud cases involving one of the parties involved.  

    I also talked briefly with a fraud person at the IRS, but nothing definitive has been reported to me.  

    Another professional (a very successful, ethical person) had a problem trying to file through ID.me as originally demanded and had his renewal request denied and returned to him.  

    Fortunately, we can now paper-file directly to the IRS.
