Dear Members,
I am happy to share that I pursued professional certificate on DEIB in LinkedIn Learning. The courses enhanced my understanding of the subject.
Key concepts:-
1) Allyship - Being an ally means using our privilege to help and support underrepresented groups. We all have privileges over others in some respects. Not showing off being an ally rather genuinely working to sponsor less privileged colleagues.
2) Being aware of unconscious bias and reducing its impact consciously.
3) Cultural Humility - Having a learning mindset and acknowledging that we already don't know many aspects of various cultures that we come across.
4) Cultural Agility - Being adaptable and adjusting among various cultures in the workplace.
5) Including diversity in the decision-making groups itself helps organizations to implement DEIB better.
6) Being sensitive to different cultures during interviews and framing non-standard questions wherever required. For example, some cultures endorse "We" instead of "I".
7) DEIB has been proven effective in improving the bottom line of the company.
8) Employees are more satisfied in DEIB cultured organizations and hence less attrition for the company.
9) Do not assume that an individual from underrepresented group necessarily requires certain specific support that you might have given to an individual of same group on an earlier occasion. It always helps to ask for more information when you want to help your colleague.
20) Halo Bias - Carrying forward the first impression forever.
21) Affinity Bias - Giving preference to people within similar group as yours. For example, interviewer may get biased towards candidates from same alma matter.
