  • 1.  Easy Point of Sale Systems for Nonprofits

    I am working with an all-volunteer nonprofit theater.  We are using an online ticketing vendor with a paypal merchant account for our ticket sales, but are unhappy with our setup for merchandise sales.  We currently have credit card terminals connected to a merchant account.  Curious if anyone has any recommendations for easy-to-use point-of-sale systems and service providers that also manage inventory and integrate with Quickbooks online.

    Hi Barbara,

    If by theatre you mean multiplexes, we were using VISTA software and accounting was done using Microsoft Dynamics AX. VISTA was integrated with AX so that manual work was avoided.

    If by theatre you mean where plays are conducted, then I'm not sure if VISTA will be able to provide their service for theatre as well. Since we were able to integrate VISTA with AX, you can confirm with them about integrating it with QuickBooks.

    Their user interface is quiet simple and our front line team were able to understand the software very quickly. Lastly, you may also get information about the POS system with them which is what your priority is I believe. Since you are working for a non-profit theatre, I'm not sure if they would be able to give you better pricing but you can definitely try.

    Thanks. Just looking for point if sale for concessions, beer/wine, and t-shirt sales. Our ticket platform is VBO and that works fine.

    Hi Barbara,

    I suggest checking into a site called Techsoup if you're not aware of it. You can find discounts on software hardware and a lot of other support as a nonprofit.

    Focusing on POS, they have two products available at a discounted rate. PayAnywhere and Dharma Merchant Services. In looking at the PayAnwhere they do integrate with QuickBooks and I found this positive recent review of PayAnywhere from NerdWallet. Payanywhere Review for 2022: Pros, Cons, Costs and Alternatives - NerdWalle The admin fee on TechSoup shows $45 not sure what that gets you but I know their QuickBooks Online subscription was deeply discounted. $160 a year for the advanced version with 25 users access. Worth looking into.
