Interesting read, and thanks for sharing Gwen. I tend to agree that over-implementation usually is not the way to go. But in my opinion the issue at hand is that the EU Directive has not been transposed in national law yet in some EU countries, which should have been done by now. That's not the same decision as over-implementing (in which you require in your national law even higher reporting standards than the CSRD requires), but a matter of not having done this in time at all.

I do very much applaud the discussion though on what would be the impact over over-application!

What I found interesting was the part that reads "under mounting pressure to pare back sustainability reporting requirements, to ensure EU companies don't end up at a competitive disadvantage to those headquartered elsewhere in the world."  I wonder if US regulators (SEC) will see this as an opening to continue to delay implementation of their own standards, which are still on hold.

๐ŸŒ CSRD and Common Sense ๐ŸŒ

Great article, Gwen! CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) aims to make reporting consistent across the EU, but over-implementing could create more obstacles than solutions. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Should nations follow a balanced approach to avoid overwhelming companies? How do you think delays in adopting CSRD might impact competitiveness with non-EU companies?

Looking forward to hearing everyoneโ€™s thoughts! ๐Ÿ“Š
