CMA Journey: Seeking Insights, Experiences, and Connections from Fellow CMA Professionals

    Hi everyone,

I have successfully passed both parts of the CMA exam and currently work full-time in an accounting role. I wanted to share my experience and get feedback from this community.

During my job search and interviews, I have noticed that awareness of the CMA credential varies among employers. I have had situations where hiring managers were unfamiliar with the CMA and asked me what it was. I have also noticed that the CPA designation generally has broader recognition, while I personally have not seen as many job postings specifically mentioning the CMA.

I want to clarify that I value the CMA credential and believe in the knowledge it provides in management accounting, financial management, and business decision-making. I am interested in learning from those who have more experience with the designation and understanding how they have leveraged the CMA throughout their careers.

Has anyone else experienced similar situations when explaining the value of the CMA to employers or colleagues? How have you effectively communicated the value of the CMA during interviews or career discussions?

I would also love to connect with fellow CMA professionals and students, especially those based in the US or those who are in the early stages of their careers, to exchange experiences, learn from each other, and build meaningful professional relationships with others on this CMA journey.

If anyone is interested in connecting, please feel free to send me a private message. I would be happy to connect and learn from each other's experiences.

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences.

It depend on which field of accounting you are working at, CMA most likely for MA, FPA, FBP.
In my country almost every job have the phase "CPA, ACCA is prefer" for every role of accountant (AR, AP, Costing, ...) although Finance manager/ chief accountant don't have them.
Some of large coop in Vietnam do aware about this but not much. You are not alone, people don't know about CMA, some of them also don't know what CPA, ACCA is about.
