  • 1.  What I learned from my simulated exam (before CMA Part 2)

    Posted 12 days ago

Yesterday I took a simulated exam.
My real CMA Part 2 exam is on Feb 11.

I realised my mistakes were not about concepts.
    They were about:
    reading too fast,
    missing small details,
    and rushing because of anxiety.

Sometimes I know the topic but don't know how to approach the question.

My score was 85%, and I still want to improve it.

While solving, I again felt how hard
Capital Budgeting, ERM, and essay questions can be.

So I wrote some personal notes for myself.
These are my personal notes, not official study material.

    Hi Tushar,
is this the first time you are taking your part 2 Exam?
In  last  May - June window , i took my Part 2 Exam
    I got 330 and failed.

In my window none of the students got their questions according to the Section weightage.
85% of the questions were from decision analysis, professional ethics and risk Management.

Pity is, I practiced nearly 350 questions from Capital budgeting, not even a single question i could see in my exam.
I have left 12 questions unattempted at the end because I have a  health issue and could not race up in the exam . Otherwise I would have passed.

I give a tip to all : try to connect with the students who are taking exams  in the Jan - feb window. ask them about the sections from which they got.

I swear you will get 70% of the questions  from that section only, the balance 30% is your own effort.  Somehow I felt corporate finance was a little bit tough. I focused a lot of time on that.
only 2 theory questions were from it, no problems. I was wondering in the exam hall.

Regarding essays, exactly the same section of essays came for me , what my other students got in the exam in that particular window - decision analysis and ERM.I got full marks in the essay -125.

Try to connect with the current window members and have an idea about what is happening.

All the best for your exam

Thank you so much for sharing this, Gayathri. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain your experience in such detail.

Your point about section weightage is very valuable. It's quite scary to prepare heavily for one area and then see a different mix in the exam, especially when you've worked so hard on Capital Budgeting. What you said about Decision Analysis, Ethics, and ERM dominating your window is very helpful for candidates like me who are testing in the current window.

I'm really sorry to hear about the health issue you faced during the exam. Leaving 12 questions unattempted in such a situation must have been very frustrating, and getting 330 despite that shows how close you were. Your essay performance is very inspiring as well - full marks is an amazing achievement.

Your advice about connecting with candidates in the same window is very practical, and I agree that understanding current trends can really help in planning revision better.

Thank you again for sharing your experience and guidance. It means a lot to students like me who are preparing now.

    Warm regards,
    Tushar
